Yes, I finally did it! I joined SCBWI. It's a professional organization for writers and illustrators of children's books (verbatim from their site).

You should check it out, just in case your curious: www.scbwi.org/ They're having their biannual conference in NYC at the end of January, but I'm too poor to go...well, I also have classes, so maybe next time! Their summer conference is in LA, and I hear that's a bigger conference than the one in NY. For someone not going, I'm strangely excited about it...

And because of SCBWI, I was able to join an online illustration critique group. The Illustration Board is comprised of 12 aspiring (like me) and professional illustrators alike who give invaluable advice and constructive criticisms to each other. Sounds awesome, right? I can't even say how happy I am to have made it in before they closed membership! Except for my never ending artist block, that is - but I learn so much just by reading comments on other artists' works. Come check it out! You won't be able to comment, but the art is FABULOUS!

Anyway, I've been really sick since the 3rd. I probably have bronchitis, but I'm too stubborn to go to the doctor, so I just muddle along. Hopefully, it goes away on its own...In the meantime, between football (I can't believe that Eli played so terribly!) and drawing, I'm keeping busy till the Spring semester starts on the 20th. If I'm still sick by the 20th, I'll be very *very* sad about it.

Shout out to everyone who's spending Xmas alone!

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 25, 2008, 9:36 AM

Christmas is an awesome time for families to get together, but for us who aren't spending it with our loved ones, it's a white Christmas indeed.

What are you doing this Christmas? Any present that sent you over the moon? Or are you like me, reading books to tide away the holidays :)

I actually finished 2 out of the seven books waiting for me. I'm now on book three of the "Vampire Academy" series by Richelle Mead. It's supposedly for young adults, but I wouldn't give it to anyone under 17. It's a little too edgy sometimes, if ya know what I mean...

Unfortunately, I had forgotten to stock groceries. I have bacon...and rice. When I tried to see if there's *anything* open today, I found out that every restaurant and grocery store has closed -_- Ba-Humbug!

Looks like it'll be a very bacon-y Christmas :D

Shout Outs!

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 24, 2008, 12:01 AM

There has been a lot of good things this week, and I'd like to take a moment to rehash and be thankful for them.

First, I finished an illustration that had taken me 2 weeks to accomplish. Doesn't it feel great when you put your marker/watercolor/digital pen/*insert your favored media here* down and you see that you've done it? You actually made it to the end after days of agonizing over colors, composition and the straightness of your lines! For me, though, it's another few days before I get myself to really let it go, that I've done my best and it's time for me to be satisfied.

Second, I've gotten featured 3x (although one is due to a contest consolation prize, but let that not be diminished as I am still equally thankful for it!).

:iconlemonachi: :iconhowling00greywolf:
So check them out! They are fine artists in their own rights and you won't be disappointed :D

Third, I found former junior high school friends in facebook lol! And 2 of them kept some art I penciled *gosh* 13 years ago. Good golly. I told them to keep it coz the value will skyrocket after I die (isn't that always the case with artists  )

AND one of them asked me to draw a design for a tattoo, so that's coming soon! I've laid out the line art already, though I don't think it'll be any more complicated than fancy line art lol.

So a big  to all of those who made my week. Thank you guys!

You know you hit bottom when...

You have to sell your clothes to eat...LOL.

I ran out of art supplies, but I also ran out of vittles, so I had to make a decision...Sorry, copic refills and air brush - maybe next time :(

Anyway, I've always been a shopaholic, so this is just karma. No, I take that back, actually this is cleaning out my closet. I love buying BEBE clothing, but I don't go ANYWHERE so it's not like I will wear them, and all of these are actually still new with tags ...I'll miss them though.

:heart:So here's my tribute to those clothing leaving my closet. May you find better homes on Ebay

Reminiscing

Journal Entry: Sat Jul 12, 2008, 12:50 AM

Hrmmm... I took some kava kava pills and I'm feeling lethargic (just not enough to fall asleep), so I looked back at a video I took for my brother to show him some of the stuff I'd been up to. He's in the Navy and we don't talk very much, so I like to recap for him.

Anyway, here's a link of it since I have 3 prints I submitted for my illustration class that I never put up on dA (another version of "Sharaharazad's Tale"):

So I was thinking about drawing a cow for :iconchildrensillustrator:'s July theme, and I realized that I really didn't know what a cow looked like. So I sought help from my good friend Google, and it led me to one of the cutest and quirkiest websites I've ever visited: Cowdepot.com.

Here's a list of things I'd like to get one of these days:

<img src="www.cowdepot.com/cowbabybottle…" alt"Flasher">

A baby bottle shaped like an udder??? Too cute - bet it'd be more fun for me than any baby LOL!

Lighter

Ok I don't smoke, but this would look sooo cute as I light my aromatherapy candles!

<img src="www.cowdepot.com/stampdeja.jpg" alt"Flasher">

Pretty darned hilarious :D

And aside from the Udder, this has to be my favorite and it's called "Flasher":

<img src="www.cowdepot.com/flasher.jpg" alt"Flasher">

In a creepy kind of way, it totally cracks me up.

There's more, to be sure, but I'm too sleepy to find more of their crazy items. Visit their shop for yourself and let me know what you think

Welcome to the wonderful world of my brain *muhahahaha!*

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, let's see what silly thought I'm writing about today: Read on!

Have you ever seen art that was SO good, you almost orgasmed?

That's me. Orgasming, I mean, after I found Alphonse Mucha's work. I've never been articulate, but when I see his paintings, posters and decorative panels, my mouth spouts poetry and my ears hear heavenly music.

Now, Mucha may not be for you, but his style and attention to details just astound me. And if you don't like him...@#%$#!@ you, ok?!!

Ok, I'm just kidding lol, but seriously, feast your eyes on these:

Let me not get started on the jewelry *faints*

So... if my style starts to become more Art Nouveau-ish, it's all Mucha's fault

So I had won an auction from Ebay for 72 pcs of Copic "Comic" Markers. While I'd never heard of comic markers, I was definitely interested since it looked like sketch. The oval shape and the super fine brush - it was definitely a steal! Apparently, nobody had ever heard of them either, so I won it for pretty cheap *cheer*

The following pictures illustrate just how similar these markers are to sketch. The only real difference is the medium broad square nib on sketch - comic markers have a medium round nib (which I thought was pretty cool!) The other difference, however, is in the color tags: these comic markers start with CM** (where the asterisk go from 1 to 72), regardless of the color family. The other copics and their refills use different color tags: blues start with B, violets with V, etc.

Here's a sketch and a comic marker side by side. Notice the similarities in length and shape and even the super brush (which I previously thought was unique only to sketch).

Sketch: Red  *VS*  Comic: Blue

According to Marianne, the Copic representative from the official website of the US copic distributor, these colors use the same Various Ink refills, though they have to be converted to the appropriate color the other copics use. She was nice enough to let me know that when it is time for me to refill, she will find a conversion chart for the comic markers.

Yeay!!

So there is it, guys: that's comic markers. Before I finish, I should also note that Marianne said these markers are not sold in the US. The ones I bought from Ebay were probably from Japan. Except it shipped from San Francisco - lol! The seller had probably made a trip to Japan and came back with dozens of copic sets to sell on Ebay. Last time I was browsing, he had Sketch sets A to D in 72 pcs and some in 36.

Just as a reminder: my Ebay auction is ending soon and it's going really cheap: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?…

It's a rare set of 72 pcs of Copic Originals in it's plastic case, BARELY used (maybe a handful of them were used once or twice) in Flesh, all the Grays, and some Blue tones. The set is called 144B and the colors are excellent for coloring manga.

If you're interested but have questions or comments, you can mail me in Ebay or send me a note here ^_^

Ok, so it sucks, but I have to do it and here's the Ebay cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?…

I'm crying inside, but I really need to sell it. Copics...oh my lovely copics...

AND ONLY STARTING AT 99 cents OMG!

I didn't really use this set at all. Most of the ones I use are my sketch markers, so this is 98% new lol. Well, my loss is someone's gain, right?

If you're interested, please feel free to check out my Ebay link. I also am auctioning  5pcs of Copic Sketch markers, so make sure you check that out too at cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?…

And feel free to shoot me an mail here or in Ebay if you have any questions or comments.

You know that feeling when you have something you GOTTA do - an art work you feel you have to DRAW - but can't?

Yea, constipation, that's what I mean -_-

Well, I finally finished coloring in my 2nd colored version of Mermaid and boy am I pooped out (pun intended). I'm sooo glad it's finished though, after about a week of looking longingly at it and then another few days of psyching myself into actually doing it...

Humans. Seriously  >.>

So check it out and let me know what you think!

Hello, world.

I guess I'm having a crisis. As an art student due to graduate college next year, I have VERY little body of work. In fact, one could say it's...non-existent. So I've challenged myself to reawaken my artistic abilities from its long somnolence. I haven't actually produced any art for a long time. Really long.

So I have a very bleak future ahead of me, is what I'm thinking.

*listens to the littlest violin play her a sad song*

So, yeah.
